Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer is an economist, attorney, grassroots organizer, and university educator fighting for bold changes to the status quo in San Diego County. A third-generation San Diegan, Terra previously served as Senior Advisor in the Obama Administration.
Decades of inaction on our County Board inspired Terra to bring her track record and expertise to elected office and shake up the legacy of failed leadership in our region. She is:
Environment: Making it a priority to upgrade the County’s stormwater infrastructure to protect the local water supply and prevent pollution and toxic runoff from contaminating our beaches, bays and coastlines. And leading the fight to clean up the Tijuana River Sewage crisis and is demanding state and federal government take action to protect public health and clean-up local beaches.
Homelessness, Mental Health, and Addiction: Tackling the homeless crisis with innovative thinking to clean-up streets, clear encampments, and get people the help they need and into supportive housing. Implementing the County’s CARE Court to require people with mental health problems to receive treatment. Launching a new homeless diversion services program – to keep people housed and save taxpayer money by providing families, seniors and people with disabilities with emergency financial assistance to pay rent and stay housed. Combating the illegal opioid crisis by increasing fentanyl enforcement, prevention and addiction treatment programs. Hiring hundreds of new trained behavioral health workers and expanding facilities to get people with mental health issues off the streets and into treatment. Clearing homeless encampments and moving people into shelters, tiny homes and supervised, safe camping sites to temporarily house people. Increasing audits, and public oversight and performance review of County Departments, especially homelessness services and programs, to eliminate wasteful spending and shutdown services that don’t work.
Gun Safety: Banning assault weapons and untraceable ghost guns, fighting for stricter safe storage gun laws, and suing gun manufacturers to hold them accountable. Supporting stricter gun safety laws and the use of red flag laws to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous criminals, including those accused of domestic violence and people with mental health issues.
Reproductive Freedom: Making San Diego County a safe haven for abortion access, protecting access to affordable healthcare for all San Diegans and working to address climate change at the local level. Making sure all women have access to safe, legal abortions and has partnered with local Planned Parenthood clinics to ensure all women have access to reproductive health services.
Healthcare: Fighting for local solutions to make healthcare, especially mental healthcare, affordable and accessible for everyone in San Diego County.
Cost of Housing: Tackling the rising cost of rent and buying a home, so our kids and grandkids can raise their families here in the community where they grew-up, by building more affordable housing near transit and places of work, streamlining permitting, and creating new housing opportunities for health workers, firefighters, and public safety workers.
Climate Crisis: Taking bold action to move San Diego County to 100% renewable energy by 2035.
